EN 1522 is a European standard that defines what the term “bulletproof” means in relation to windows, doors, and roller shutters. Without certification to this standard, any claim of ballistic protection remains a marketing statement not supported by independent testing. CBX manufactures doors, windows, and roller shutters certified to EN 1522 — from level FB2 to FB7, depending on the model and configuration.

What EN 1522 checks and why it matters when choosing a product

EN 1522 standard defines the testing methodology for the ballistic resistance of transparent structures and opaque panels. The testing is conducted by an independent laboratory: a series of shots are fired from a firearm of specified caliber from a certain distance and speed at the sample. The level of protection is assigned only if none of the shots lead to complete penetration and no dangerous fragments are formed on the protected side.

The classification includes levels from FB1 to FB7. FB2 corresponds to protection against a 9 mm caliber pistol. FB4 — against a .44 Magnum pistol. FB6 and FB7 — against automatic weapons including 7.62 mm caliber. The choice of level is determined by assessing the threat to a specific object — not general safety considerations.

CBX Armored Doors — EN 1522 Certification as Part of Comprehensive Protection

The door is the most vulnerable point of any secured perimeter. Most physical intrusion attempts are made through doorways, and it is the door that takes the first hit in an armed attack. CBX armored doors are certified to EN 1522 with protection levels FB4 and FB6, combined with anti-burglary certification to EN 1627 at levels RC2–RC5.

The door’s design includes a steel plate 1.5 mm thick made of hardened steel, reinforced with omega-shaped profiles. The frame is made of the same material and is an integral part of the certified assembly — replacing the frame with a standard one voids the certification. Additional fire resistance is available per EN 1634 at levels EI30, EI60, and EI90, smoke protection S200, as well as thermal insulation and sound insulation up to -41 dB. The door is produced in versions with a solid and glazed leaf, as well as in a double-leaf version for wide openings.

Typical application sites: banks and exchange points, jewelry stores, government institutions, consulates, private residences with heightened security requirements, and valuables transportation facilities. The door meets the requirements of Ministerial Order 317/2011 for facilities dealing with cash and valuables.

Glazing and Windows — Ballistic Protection without Losing Light Transmission

Glazing is the second most vulnerable element of the perimeter after the door. Standard glass, even tempered, does not provide ballistic protection. CBX High-Baix series high-security glazing is certified to EN 1522 and EN 1627 RC2–RC4, providing ballistic and anti-burglary protection in a single design solution.

The package consists of several layers of tempered glass and polycarbonate. Polycarbonate provides flexibility and energy absorption on impact, while glass offers rigidity and structural integrity. After a bullet hits, it slows down and stops inside the package, not creating a through hole and not producing fragments on the protected side. Meanwhile, optical transparency remains comparable to standard glazing — which is critically important for sites where visual openness is part of the architectural design or a security requirement.

The frame system is developed and produced by CBX along with the glazing. This is critically important: a ballistic package installed in a standard aluminum frame does not retain the certified level of protection in actual installation. The weak point becomes the junction of the package to the frame and the frame’s attachment to the wall. The CBX certificate applies to the entire certified assembly — package, frame, anchoring system — and not just the glass.

Securbaix — Anti-burglary Roller Shutters with Ballistic Option

Securbaix is a roller shutter system for commercial and industrial buildings where the main threat is burglary, but basic ballistic protection may also be needed. Ыecurbaix is certified to EN 1627 at level RC3. The Securbaix BL version achieves RC4 — the testing is conducted against experienced burglars using professional tools for 30 minutes of continuous attack.

The profile is made of extruded aluminum with a double wall. The reinforced section guides with nylon inserts require no lubrication and provide lateral retention of the curtain during an attempt to force it out — the most common method of attack on standard roller shutters. The self-locking system secures the curtain when closed, regardless of the state of the drive, preventing the roller shutter from being raised from the outside during power outages.

Securbaix is used in retail, logistics centers, manufacturing facilities, and in any situation requiring certified anti-burglary protection with high traffic of openings and closures. The system is available in versions with a solid curtain, microp perforation, and with a transparent insert — the latter is especially in demand for retail sites where the showcase remains part of the marketing strategy even during closed hours.

Certification — A Process, Not a Document

CBX maintains an active certification program across its product range. Certifications are updated, expanded across protection levels, and revised as products evolve and standards change. Each delivered product is accompanied by valid certification documentation specifying the particular model and configuration.

The certification portfolio covers EN 1522 (ballistics), EN 1627 (anti-burglary), EN 13123-2 (explosion resistance for specific models), EN 1634 (fire resistance), EN 12424 (wind load) and CE marking according to EN 13241-1. For projects with requirements under NIJ 0108.01 and UL 752 standards, documentation is provided upon request.

Supply and Project Collaboration

CBX supplies certified doors, windows, and roller shutters for projects across Europe, the USA, Latin America, the Middle East and Persian Gulf countries, Africa, and Asia. Production is located in Spain. Logistics, timelines, and customs documentation for international supplies are coordinated at the project application stage.

For security integrators and project teams working in multiple geographies, CBX ensures consistent product quality, uniform certification documentation, and equal technical support regardless of the country of destination.
